Upaya Mengurangi Insiden Tertusuk Jarum pada Tenaga Medis di RSU Muhammadiyah Babat
Abstract
Needlestick injuries are one of the most common occupational hazards experienced by medical personnel, particularly nurses and laboratory staff. These injuries not only endanger the safety and health of medical personnel but also increase the risk of transmitting blood-borne infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS. This study aims to evaluate the efforts undertaken by Muhammadiyah Babat General Hospital to reduce needlestick injuries among medical personnel. The method used in compiling this report is descriptive qualitative with direct observation, interviews, and documentation studies during the internship period. The results of the observations indicate that Muhammadiyah Babat General Hospital has implemented various preventive measures, including socialization of safe work procedures, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), training in handling sharp instruments, and providing standard needle disposal facilities. In addition, the hospital has implemented a written incident reporting system to monitor and evaluate needlestick injuries. However, it was found that some medical personnel still do not fully implement safety procedures at work, especially during high-pressure working conditions. Therefore, it is recommended that the hospital strengthen supervision, increase the frequency of training, and improve the reporting system to be more responsive. In conclusion, Muhammadiyah Babat Hospital's efforts to reduce needlestick injuries have been quite successful, but further improvements are needed to achieve zero needlestick injuries.
